BIOS Option Of The Week - CPU Direct Access FB
09:44 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

Since 1999, we have been developing the BIOS Optimization Guide, affectionately known as the BOG. From a meager beginning of a single page, it now covers over 440 BIOS options. As old BOG readers will know, we started offering two editions of the BOG since Revision 8.0 - a simplified edition and the complete edition.

Normally, the complete edition is only available to subscribers who help sponsor the development of the guide through a small fee. However, that changes today! From now on, we will post a BIOS option from the complete edition of the BIOS Optimization Guide every weekend.

This week, we will be taking a look at the CPU Direct Access FB BIOS setting.

NVIDIA Launches The GeForce GTX 670
11:13 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

May 11, 2012 — NVIDIA today launched the third GPU based on its next generation Kepler™ graphics architecture, the GeForce® GTX 670, which brings dramatically improved levels of price-performance, power efficiency and whisper-quiet operation for PC gamers, starting at US$399.

Engineered from the same DNA as the recently announced GTX 680 — NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line, single-GPU — the GTX 670 packs a mean punch in its lithe 9.5-inch-long frame. It outpaces the closest competitive product in gaming performance by upwards of 45 percent, while consuming approximately 18 percent less power.

Auto Shut Down Problem With The Dell Inspiron 14R (N4110) Notebook
09:05 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

Guys, ever since I purchased the Dell Inspiron 14R (N4110) notebook, I’ve been experiencing auto-shut down problems. I need to find out from you guys if any of you have experienced the same thing?

I recently heard that this is quite a common problem with certain batches of the N4110. But when I questioned a Dell Support guy recently, he got all defensive about it and very strongly and loudly asserted that it is completely untrue, and that my case was a one-off issue. That’s why I’m here today.. I want to find out if anyone else is experiencing this same problem with this notebook.

The notebook will be running normally.. and suddenly, it’s completely turned off, as if power has been turned off for a desktop PC. There’s no BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), no warning, nothing. One second it’s running normally, the next second, it’s dead.

Initially, when it happened, I thought maybe the RAM is faulty, so I tested the RAM. No problem. Then I tried the battery - turning off power while the notebook was still running. No problem - it continued running, using battery power. After that, I installing a new hard disk drive so I can reinstall everything again, just in case it’s a software issue. Well, guess what - no difference - it still continued to shut down randomly and automatically.

Elitegroup (ECS) Leads the Market by Introducing Super Alloy Chokes
10:53 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

April 30, 2012, Taipei, Taiwan -Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) is pleased to introduce uniquely-designed, gold plated Super Alloy Chokes.

While the current industry standard is to use iron or ferrite materials for the magnetic cores of the chokes, ECS has created market-leading chokes that not only maximize performance and stability thanks to the Super Alloy core, but also prevent corrosion from damaging your system with the gold plating. These innovative Super Alloy chokes are available on three motherboards in the H77 and Z77 chipset series, the X77H2-A3, Z77H2-AX, and Z77H2-A2X.

For PC users troubled by inexplicable crashes, poor stability or disappointing performance, Elitegroup’s innovation delivers the solution that other PC motherboard manufacturers only promise, with the new Super Alloy Choke. This much-needed upgrade to a critical – but usually overlooked – motherboard component lets users enjoy the full power of their systems without the instability and degradation often caused by lower quality components.
